Let’s be honest here – 2020 was a dumpster fire of epic proportions. So many weddings were postponed or outright cancelled, and the ones that did continue did so with less guests than planned. Out of all the weddings I was supposed to be at, only a handful continued. But despite it all, love persevered. Without sounding like a Hallmark card, love prevails through global pandemics, lockdowns, and economic unrest. Love is all around. Love is the answer. To be thrust into such an unknown time is hard, but it anchored me all season watching couples commit to each other in front of their friends and family. The world might fall apart, but people still chose to get married and start lives together.
Each wedding brought me light because there’s just something about watching two people choose to enter into a covenant like marriage that’s balm for the soul when everything else is on fire. These weddings may have not been the *exact* wedding each couple had dreamed of, but at the end of the day, they realized that being married was worth not having the “perfect” day. And let me tell you – they were all perfect in their own ways. I teared up at each wedding (that’s the mark of a good one) and even I photographed only one “normal” wedding, each subsequent one was just as magical. Each bride still radiated joy – each dad still teared up seeing their daughter in their wedding dress. At the end of the day, love is all that matters. Each wedding was unique and beautiful, and each couple was perfection. Congratulations to my handful of 2020 couples – YOU DID THE DAMN THING!!
