How to Choose Your Engagement Session Location
We’ve talked about what to wear to your engagement session over and over, but we’ve never chatted about how to choose what location you want your session to be at! You can choose literally any location – it feels totally daunting, right? The options are literally endless – from the mountains to the oceans, we have it ALL here in New England, and can accommodate almost anything!!
When thinking of a spot to photograph your session, I always ask you to think of anywhere that’s special to you and your fiance. Sometimes it’s not an obvious choice, but a place that’s deeply meaningful to the two of you. It could be where you had your first date, where you met, where you got engaged – it can even be your favorite coffee shop!
If you don’t have a spot like that, it’s ok! My biggest question to couples is what they want the vibe of their session to be like. This can help narrow down your choices. The location of your session also depends on what time of year you want to have your photographs taken. Are you looking for a fall session? We’ll want to make sure that there are a lot of trees around. Do you want a summer session? A lake or ocean would be perfect!
I’ve photographed at parent’s houses, summer camps that hold special memories, mountain tops, national parks, my couples homes, a cattle ranch, big cities, small Vermont towns – the possibilities are endless. If my couples are unsure of the location they want, I always have a bunch of suggestions at places I’ve used before that I know are perfect for photos! I’m always looking for more spots to work at and I LOVE when those spots are unique to my couples.
Even if you don’t have an idea yet of where you’d like to have your session, that’s ok! Once we photograph there, that spot will officially become a special spot for the two of you!! Sometimes couples will want the location to match the vibe of their wedding, and sometimes couples go in a totally different direction. I promise to make the process of finding a spot as painless as possible!
I want you to feel comfortable at your session, and that means finding a spot that’s perfect for you. I love being able to go to find new spots to work in, and I love it when my couples have these new special spots just for them!!
