How to Plan Your Summer Engagement Outfits
When you plan your summer engagement session outfits, there are a few things that you want to keep in mind. Staying comfortable in what you wear is the first one, in terms of making sure that the outfit corresponds to your style, but also to the weather you’ll be in. You want the images to feel timeless and true to your personalities, and the best way to ensure that you look great during your photos is to plan your outfits beforehand (you don’t want to be the people running to Target on the way to your session to grab a shirt – ask me how I know). When it comes to summer engagement sessions, here are a few tips to think about when you start planning.
I think that planning a summer engagement session outfit is so much easier because you won’t have to worry about coats, scarves or boots, and there’s a good chance you might end up barefoot in the end anyways. The only factors you really need to take into account are the colors you choose and the location of your photos. If you’re doing your session in more of an urban setting, you’ll want to lean towards a little bit more of a fashion forward look, but if you’re going to be somewhere that’s more nature inspired, you can’t go wrong with anything flowy and airy.
You’ll also want to consider utilizing more lightweight and breathable fabrics during the summer – think linens, cottons and bamboos. Anything heavier than that will make you hot and uncomfortable and it will translate in the photos. Lighter colors will also help reflect any light, keeping you cooler. I recommend staying in whites, pastels and neutrals to help reflect as much light as possible. If you’re not sure what color palette to choose when planning your outfits, here’s a post with some helpful tips! When it’s 90 degrees outside, you’ll want to do everything to maximize staying comfortable.
If after all of this, you’re still unsure about what to wear, send me an email! I love helping my clients plan their outfits for sessions and it’s such a fun way to flex a different creative part of my brain.
