Springtime Family Session at King’s Hill Inn & Barn in South Paris, Maine
If there’s one thing I can tell you about the Michaud family, it’s this: you’re guaranteed to have a phenomenal time with them—whether you’re just hanging out or photographing their beautiful chaos. When Kate booked me for their spring family session in Maine, I was equal parts delighted and nervous.
Photographing your friends is its own special blend of joy and pressure. You want to do them proud. You want to capture who they really are. You want to give them photos that feel like home. And when she told me this would be their first family session in 20 years (!!), the emotions hit even harder.
The Perfect Spring Day at King’s Hill Inn & Barn
We met at King’s Hill Inn & Barn in South Paris, Maine, which is their family’s wedding venue—and honestly, there couldn’t have been a more meaningful place to capture them. The spring sunshine showed up. The blossoms showed up. And the Michaud family? Oh, they crushed it.
From the second they stepped out of the car, I knew the session was going to be a blast. They were warm, hilarious, fully present, and ready to make memories. Every corner of King’s Hill—whether it was the open fields, the rustic barn backdrop, or the scenic hilltop—gave us the perfect canvas for natural, joyful portraits.
Capturing a Family That Knows How to Have Fun
One of my favorite parts of this spring family session in Maine was how effortlessly the Michauds interacted with each other. No stiff posing. No awkward silence. Just genuine laughter, teasing, playful chaos, and the kind of closeness you can’t fake.
Kate had warned me her family was lively—and she did NOT exaggerate. They kept me on my toes from start to finish in the best possible way. I swear every frame had someone mid-laugh, mid-joke, or mid-hug. It’s sessions like these that remind me why I love photographing families so much: the energy, the connection, the personality… it all matters.
Why Spring Is the Dreamiest Time for Family Photos in Maine
Sessions like this are exactly why spring is one of my favorite times for family photos:
-
Soft, glowy natural light
-
Gentle breezes
-
Green beginning to peek through
-
Color everywhere
-
Comfortable temps
-
Happy moods (sunshine does something to people!)
When you pair that with a gorgeous location like King’s Hill Inn & Barn, you get photos that feel fresh, rich, and full of movement.
A Session Filled With Meaning (and So Much Heart)
What made this session extra special was the sense of legacy woven through it. Photographing a family at a place tied to their own history—their own wedding venue!—added an emotional layer to every shot.
I could feel how much it meant to them. And as a photographer, that’s everything.
I walked away from this session feeling so deeply honored to have been the one to capture these moments for them. Twenty years since their last family photos… and these are the images they now have to mark this chapter of their lives. That responsibility never gets old.
To the Michauds: Thank You for Letting Me In
Kate, thank you for trusting me—not just with photos, but with your people. Your family is every bit as delightful, hilarious, and warm as you are, and I adored every minute of this springtime family session in South Paris, Maine.
I hope these photos make you laugh, smile, and feel all the feelings for years and years to come.
